The latest statistics on delayed transfers of care produced by the Welsh Government were released on 22 January 2013 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on delayed transfers of care include data for Wales on the census date of 19 December 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 18 December 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • the total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 19 December 2012 was 420; this is a decrease of 57, or 11.9%, on the figure for 21 November 2012
  • the total number of patients waiting to leave hospital was 344. Of these, 94 were delayed in mental health facilities and 250 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 43 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment, and for 33 the next stage could not be determined
