The latest statistics produced by the Welsh Government were released on 26 February 2013 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

This GP access in Wales, 2012 publication is a new statistical release combining statistics first summarised in 2012 in statistical articles on GP opening hours and GP appointment times.

The key results are:

  • in 2012, 68 per cent (324 practices) of GP practices were open for daily core hours, (08:00 to 18:30) or within one hour of the daily core hours, Monday to Friday. This is an increase from 60 per cent (287 practices) in 2011
  • in 2012, 94 per cent (443 practices) of practices offered appointments between 17:00 and 18:30 at least 2 week days, an increase from 92 per cent (440 practices) in 2011
