NHS Direct in Wales update, quarter ending December 2012

The latest statistics on calls to NHS Direct Wales produced by the Welsh Government were released on 6 February 2013 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority

The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 7 November 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • 87,900 calls were made to NHS Direct Wales, of which 68,200 (78%) were to the main 0845 number
  • 61,500 calls were answered by NHS Direct Wales, of which 49,800 (81%) were on the main 0845 number
  • just over 9,000 calls were transferred to NHS Direct Wales, from the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, for clinical triage
  • 765 calls were answered (out of 1,330 made) from callers expressing a preference for the call to be taken in Welsh (around 1.5% of all calls answered)
  • almost 570,000 visits were made to the NHS Direct Wales website, more than eight times as many as in the October to December quarter in 2007
  • 717 on-line enquiries were made to the web-based enquiry service, more than twice as many as the number (304) in the October to December quarter in 2007
