This Release presents information on the number of new dwellings started and completed in Wales up to the end of September 2005 as reported by local authorities. This information is based on the reports of local authority building inspectors and does not include information from private approved inspectors.
UK Statistics Authority Website The key results for the July to September quarter 2005 show:

Starts
  • There were 2,391 new dwellings started during the July to September quarter 2005, an increase of around 70 from the previous quarter, but nearly 260 less than the same quarter the previous year.
  • The private sector accounted for 2,328 (97 per cent) of new dwellings started during July to September 2005. Of the remaining dwellings, 62 were started by Registered Social Landlords and 1 was started by a local authority.

Completions

  • There were 1,959 dwellings completed during the July to September quarter 2005, a decrease of around 120 from the previous quarter and nearly 160 less than the same quarter a year earlier.
  • There were 1,877 dwellings (96 per cent) completed by the private sector, a further 79 dwellings completed by Registered Social Landlords and 3 by local authorities.
