This first release was originally published in November 2006. Since its publication this release has been revised as a result of updated data from local authorities and the discovery of some errors within the data processing.

UK Statistics Authority Website This Statistical Release presents information collected about Private Sector Renewal Activity for the year 2005-06. It also presents comparisons with figures for earlier periods.

Key results for 2005-06:

  • Overall, local authorities in Wales spent £89.6 million on providing help to private owners and to tenants in their area for home improvement and repair. This was
    6 per cent more than in 2004-05.
  • Expenditure on activity under the 2002 Order was £49.9 million.
  • During 2005-06, 5,268 Mandatory Disabled Facilities grants, with a total value of £35.4 million, were completed by local authorities in Wales.
  • The total value of residual payments on completed grants under the 1996 Act (excluding Mandatory DFGs) during 2005-06 was £4.2 million.
  • Eleven group repair type schemes were completed covering 212 dwellings and with an estimated total cost of £5.4 million.
  • There were 31 Renewal areas in operation during 2005-06 and local authorities spent £36.0 million on these areas, an increase of 10 per cent from the previous year.
