The latest National Statistics on Homelessness produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 14th January 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Homelessness in Wales include data for the quarter July to September 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 24th September 2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • There were 1,519 households accepted as homeless by local authorities during the July to September 2008 quarter.
  • The number of households accepted as homeless during July to September 2008 was 4 per cent lower than the previous quarter and 4 per cent lower than the same quarter a year earlier.
  • The number of households accommodated temporarily at the end of September 2008 was 2,952. This was nearly 3 per cent higher than the previous quarter, and almost the same as the same quarter a year earlier.
  • By the end of September 2008, there were 331 households in Bed and Breakfast accommodation, a rise of 24 per cent since the same quarter the previous year.
  • Of those households in Bed and Breakfast accommodation, 15 per cent were families with children.
