The latest National Statistics on Social Landlords possessions and evictions in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 28 October 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website This Statistical Release presents information on possession orders and eviction warrants obtained against tenants of social landlords (local authorities and registered social landlords – RSLs) in Wales during 2008/09. The release also presents information about other legal action that social landlords have taken against anti-social behaviour by their tenants.

This latest release updates the statistics previously released on 29 October 2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Since 2005-06 both possession orders and eviction warrants have continued to fall to 4,274 and 3,052 respectively during 2008-09.
  • Just over a third of eviction warrants each year result in tenants leaving their homes, the majority of which are single working-age adults.
  • Levels of anti-social behaviour orders by tenants increased over the last year from 18 to 27 and injunctions increased from 107 to 113.
  • Over the last year the number of possession orders obtained per tenant by RSLs has increased to the same level as local authorities though the number of eviction warrants per tenant still remains significantly lower for RSLs.
