The latest National Statistics on Private Sector Renewal activity 2009-10 produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 16 September 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Private Sector Renewal Activity in Wales include data for the year 2009- 10. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 9 December 2009.

The key points from the 2009-10 release show:

  • Annual expenditure by local authorities on providing help to private owners and tenants in their area for home improvement and repairs continued to decrease.
  • £59.3 million was spent on private sector renewal during 2009-10. Of this, 96 per cent (£57 million) was provided directly by local authorities through grants and loans, which was 7 per cent less than the £61.5 million provided during 2008-09.
  • Expenditure on Mandatory DFGs also continued to decrease during 2009-10, dropping by 5 per cent from the £34.4 million spent during 2008-09.
  • There were 38 Renewal areas in operation during 2009-10, covering around 49,000 dwellings. Local authorities spent  £43.4 million on these areas during 2009-10, an increase of 53 per cent on the 2008-09 figure of £28.3 million.
