The latest National Statistics on Social Landlords possessions and evictions in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 29 September 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website This Statistical Release presents information on possession orders and eviction warrants obtained against tenants of social landlords (local authorities and registered social landlords – RSLs) in Wales during 2009-10. The release also presents information about other legal action that social landlords have taken against anti-social behaviour by their tenants
This latest release updates the statistics previously released on 28 October 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Since 2005-06 the number of possession orders and eviction warrants, for all social landlords, have continued to fall, falling to 3,815 and 2,567 respectively during 2009-10.
  • Just over a third of eviction warrants each year result in tenants leaving their homes, the majority of which are single working-age adults.
  • The number of anti-social behaviour orders has increased over the last year to 33 but remains below the peak of 38 in 2005-06.  The level of injunctions has continued to increase but at 121 numbers are still just below the 2005-06 peak of 125.
  • Over the last year the number of possession orders obtained per tenant by RSLs has increased and was just above the local authorities level though the number of eviction warrants per tenant still remains notably lower for RSLs.
