The latest National Statistics on homelessness produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 12th January according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on homelessness include data for Wales for the period July to September 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 22nd September 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • In general, the number of households accepted as homeless have been falling since the end of 2004-05. However, during the July to September 2010 quarter 1,606 households were accepted as homeless which is an increase of 9 per cent on both the previous quarter and on the same quarter of 2009.
  • The use of temporary accommodation has generally been falling since mid 2005 though numbers have increased slightly since December 2009. There were 2,629 households in temporary accommodation at the end of September 2010, an increase of 2 per cent compared with September 2009.
  • The use of bed and breakfast accommodation has generally been falling since the end of 2004, however latest figures show that this trend is leveling off slightly. By the end of September 2010, there were 212 households in bed and breakfast accommodation, which is down by 9 per cent since September 2009.
  • The number of families with children in bed and breakfast accommodation has increased during the quarter. At the end of September 2010 they accounted for 8 per cent of all households in bed and breakfast accommodation, compared with 3 per cent a year earlier.
