UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on homelessness include data for Wales for the period April to June 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 20th June 2012.

Household acceptances

  • The number of households accepted as homeless fell from the peak in 2004-05 through to the end of 2009 but have since been increasing rising by 4 per cent during 2011-12. The April to June 2012 quarter however saw a decrease of 9 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2011.

Households in Temporary Accommodation

  • In general, the use of temporary accommodation fell between 2005-06 and 2009-10 but has since been increasing as a consequence of the increase in acceptances. As with acceptances there was a decrease in this quarter, with 2,500 households in temporary accommodation at the end of June 2012, down by 4 per cent on June 2011.
  • The 245 households in temporary bed and breakfast accommodation at the end of June 2012 represents an increase of 4 per cent compared with the low seen at the end of June 2011, however the recent figures are consistent with the levels seen during 2009-10 and 2010-11. Of these, 15 households (5 per cent) contained children, which is also an increase on the 10 households with children in bed and breakfast accommodation at the end of June 2011.
