The latest National Statistics on Council Tax Levels: 2010-11, produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 25 March 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Council Tax Levels include data for Wales for the period 2010-11. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 25 March 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Average band D council tax for Wales for 2010-11 is £1,127.  This includes £927 for county councils, £175 for police authorities and £25 for community councils.  Figures for billing authorities, including the police authority elements, vary from £895 in Pembrokeshire to £1,382 in Blaenau Gwent.
  • County council increases in band D council tax for 2010-11 average £33 or 3.6%. Police authority increases average £7 or 4.1%. These increases combine to produce an average band D rise of £40 or 3.7%.
  • Bridgend has the largest band D percentage increase (including community council and police) of 4.8%.  Denbighshire has the smallest overall band D percentage increase of 2.6%.
  • South Wales Police authority has the largest percentage increase of 5.0%, North Wales Police has the smallest percentage increase of 3.0%.
  • Council tax is increasing by an estimated 1.8% in England compared to 3.7% in Wales. The average band D council tax in Wales is 78% of the latest estimated figure of £1,439 for England.
