The latest National Statistics on Local Authority Capital Expenditure produced by the Welsh Government were released on 11 October 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on capital expenditure include data for unitary, police, fire and national park authorities in Wales for the period 2010-11.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Capital expenditure for 2010-11 was £998 million or £332 per head of population.  This represents an increase of £64 million or 7% over the previous year.
  • Capital receipts for 2010-11 were £73 million.  This represents an increase of £12 million or 21% over the previous year.
  • Of the overall capital expenditure, education accounted for 23% (£233 million) followed by transport 21% (£211 million) and housing 21% (£210 million).
  • Police, fire and national park authorities reported expenditure of £34 million, £19 million and £1 million respectively.
  • Capital receipts came mostly from housing £23 million, 'other services' £18 million and education £15 million.
