Local Authority Capital Expenditure, 2010-11

Statistics on capital expenditure include data for unitary, police, fire and national park authorities in Wales for the period 2010-11.

The key points from the latest release are:

• Capital expenditure for 2010-11 was £998 million or £332 per head of population.  This represents an increase of £64 million or 7% over the previous year.
• Capital receipts for 2010-11 were £73 million.  This represents an increase of £12 million or 21% over the previous year.
• Of the overall capital expenditure, education accounted for 23% (£233 million) followed by transport 21% (£211 million) and housing 21% (£210 million).
• Police, fire and national park authorities reported expenditure of £34 million, £19 million and £1 million respectively.
• Capital receipts came mostly from housing £23 million, 'other services' £18 million and education £15 million.
