The latest National Statistics on retained duty staff produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 22 January 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 June 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 20 February 2009.

Fires

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 40,100 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 June 2008, a decrease of 17 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 12 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties

  • There were 32 fatal casualties from fires in Wales in the year ending 30 June 2008, compared with 18 in the previous period.
  • There were 620 non-fatal casualties from fires recorded compared with 650 in the previous period.

False Alarms

  • In the year ending 30 June 2008, there were 19,100 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 7 per cent from 20,400 in the previous period.
  • There were 1,500 malicious false fire alarms during the current period, a decrease of 10 per cent when compared with the previous period.
