The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 17 July 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 September 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 8 May 2009.

Fires

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 39,000 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 September 2008, a decrease of 12 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 9 per cent compared with the previous 12-months.

Casualties

  • There were 32 fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 30 September 2008, compared with 16 during the previous 12-months.
  • There were 650 non-fatal casualties from fires recorded compared with 620 from the previous 12-months.

False Alarms

  • In the year ending 30 September 2008, there were 19,000 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 4 per cent from 19,700 compared with the previous 12-months.
  • There were 1,500 malicious false fire alarms during the current period, a decrease of 7 per cent when compared with the previous 12-months.
