Fire Statistics Monitor, Quarter 2 and 3 2009

Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 September 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 4 December 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

Fires:

• The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 37,600 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 September 2009, a decrease of 4 per cent on the previous period.
• The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 4 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

• There were 19 fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 30 September 2009, down from 29 in the previous period.
• There were 328 Injuries and a further 283 sent for precautionary tests in the year ending 30 September 2009.

False Alarms:

• In the year ending 30 September 2009, there were 17,900 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 6 per cent from 19,000 in the previous period.
• There were 1,200 malicious false fire alarms during the current period a decrease of 22 per cent when compared with the previous period.
