The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 14 May 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 30 September 2009. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 4 December 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 37,600 fires and false alarms in the year ending 30 September 2009, a decrease of 4 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 4 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 19 fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 30 September 2009, down from 29 in the previous period.
  • There were 328 Injuries and a further 283 sent for precautionary tests in the year ending 30 September 2009.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 30 September 2009, there were 17,900 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 6 per cent from 19,000 in the previous period.
  • There were 1,200 malicious false fire alarms during the current period a decrease of 22 per cent when compared with the previous period.
