The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 26 August 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to 31 March 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 4 December 2009.

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended 36,000 fires and false alarms in the year ending 31 March 2010, a decrease of 6 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 3 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 23(r) fire deaths in Wales in the year ending 31 March 2010, a rise from 16 in the previous period.
  • There were 249 injuries and a further 326 sent to a hospital for precautionary tests or were advised to seek medical advice in the year ending 31 March 2010.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 31 March 2010, there were 16,900 false fire alarms in Wales, a decrease of 10 per cent from 18,900 in the previous period.
  • There were 900 malicious false alarms during the current period, a decrease of 36 per cent when compared with the previous period.
