Students in Higher Education Institutions, 2007/08

The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 19 March 2008.

This bulletin is based on statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and follow on from the statistics previously released by HESA on 29 January 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

• There were 125,540 HE Student enrolments at Welsh HEIs, 2.1 per cent lower than 2006/07. 38 per cent of enrolments were part-time.
• There were 101,965 Welsh domiciled HE student enrolments at UK HEIs, 3 per cent lower than 2006/07. 44 per cent of enrolments were part-time.
• 35,185 higher education qualifications were obtained at Welsh HEIs.
• 25,730 higher education qualifications were obtained by Welsh domiciled students at UK HEIs.
• Since 2001/02 the proportion of Welsh domiciled students studying in Wales has increased from 62 per cent to 66 per cent. Similarly the proportion of UK domiciled students at Welsh HEIs who are from Wales has increased from 55 per cent to 57 per cent
