National Comparators for Further Education and Work-Based Learning, 2007/08

The latest statistics on learner outcomes for Further Education (FE) and Work-Based Learning (WBL) produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on the 21 May 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on learner outcomes at FE institutions and WBL providers include data for Wales for the period 2007/08. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 17 July 2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • There were improvements, at a sector level, in all measures of learner outcomes between 2006/07 and 2007/08. There remains variation in rates across subject areas.
  • The overall learning activity success rate for FE in 2007/08 was 67 per cent, i.e two-thirds of activities were successfully completed and attained.
  • WBL framework success rates were 63 per cent and 68 per cent in Modern Apprenticeship (MA) and Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA) programmes respectively.
