Assembly Learning Grants Awarded to Welsh Domiciled Students in Further Education, 2008/09

The latest National Statistics on Assembly Learning Grants awarded to Welsh domiciled students in Further Education produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 29 October 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website This Statistical Release presents information on the number of Assembly Learning Grants (ALGs) awarded to Welsh domiciled students in Further Education in academic year 2008/09. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 31 March 2009.

Key points for 2008/09 from the release are:

  • 6,690 students in Further Education applied for an Assembly Learning Grant as at end July 2009, an increase of 8 per cent compared with 2007/08.
  • 5,250 applications were successful (79 per cent of applications), an increase of 2 per cent compared with 2007/08.
  • 70 per cent of all applications and 87 per cent of successful applications were from full time students.
  • £5.8 million has been paid to date to FE students in ALGs, an increase of 2 per cent compared with 2007/08.

Note: With regard to Table 2, an ‘r’ denotes a figure that has been revised since the previous release (October 2008), as a result of new information being made available, to ensure comparability with latest data.
