Further Education, Work-based Learning and Community Learning in Wales Statistics 2007/08

National Statistics on post-16 education and training produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 17 December 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website The statistics comprise a reference volume for Further Education, work-based learning and local authority community learning in Wales, primarily covering the period August 2007 to July 2008.

Key points from the volume include:

  • 217,550 learners were enrolled at FE institutions during 2007/08.
  • There was a 1.6 per cent decrease in FE learner numbers in total at Further and Higher Education institutions between December 2002 and December 2007.
  • 44,660 learners pursued a Local Authority Community Learning activity in 2007/08 (including those enrolled at FEIs but taught by local authority staff).
  • 58,600 learners undertook work-based learning programmes at FEIs and other training providers in 2007/08.
  • 68 per cent of learners leaving their most recent work-based learning programme in 2007/08 went into current or new employment.

More recent but provisional data for 2008/09 were released in November.
