The latest statistics on the Higher Education Statistics Agency’s Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey - produced by the Welsh Assembly Government - concentrates on students who graduated in 2004/05, and was released on 22 December 2009.

Statistics on Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) in Wales: Longitudinal Survey (2004/05 Cohort) includes data for UK domiciled students but concentrates on students at Welsh HEIs or Welsh domiciled students. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 28th February 2008.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Over 3,025 UK domiciled higher education students who qualified from Welsh Higher Education Institutions responded and these students were first surveyed three years earlier around 6 months after graduation.
  • 83 per cent of qualifiers were in employment (65 per cent at 6 months).
  • 7 per cent were in work and further study (11 per cent at 6 months).
  • 5 per cent were in further study only (14 per cent at 6 months).
  • 3 per cent were assumed to be unemployed (5 per cent at 6 months).
  • The proportions in each activity were similar to those for qualifiers from all UK HEIs.
  • Qualifiers who studied at Welsh HEIs were less likely to remain in Wales for employment when compared with the equivalent ‘retention’ figure for other UK countries but comparable to most English regions.
