The latest statistics on Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) Statistics, produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 30 March 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority. The latest release updates the statistics previously released in October 2009.

This Bulletin contains summary information on applicants, through UCAS, accepted to full-time degree and HND courses starting in Autumn 2009 at UK universities and colleges.  It includes information on accepted applicants at Welsh institutions and Welsh domiciled applicants accepted at UK institutions. UK-wide figures were published by UCAS in January.

Key results for 2009 entry are:

  • 26,421 applicants were accepted by Welsh institutions. This was a 12 per cent increase on 2008 and 44 per cent higher than 1997.
  • 20,196 Welsh domiciled applicants were accepted by UK institutions – a 9 per cent increase on 2008 and 39 per cent higher than in 1997;
  • 71 per cent of the successful Welsh domiciled applicants were accepted by Welsh institutions, 1 percentage point higher than in 2008 and 19 percentage points higher than in 1997.
