Destinations of Students Gaining Qualifications from Higher Education Institutions, 2008/09

The bulletin includes data on Welsh domiciled qualifiers and those who studied at Welsh HEIs.  The data included here are taken from the Higher Education Statistics Agency’s (HESA) 2008/09 Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) record.

2008/09 Summary

• Around three-quarters of both Welsh domiciled qualifiers (76 per cent) and qualifiers from Welsh institutions (74 per cent) had entered some sort of work six months after graduation. Six per cent and 7 percent of Welsh domiciles and qualifiers from Welsh HEIs respectively were assumed to be unemployed, with the majority of the remainder entering study only.
• Qualifiers who studied at Welsh HEIs or had a Welsh domicile background were less likely to remain in Wales for employment when compared to other UK countries but ‘retention’ was higher than for the majority of English regions.
• 84 per cent of employed Welsh qualifiers and 83 per cent of employed qualifiers from Welsh HEIs were in permanent employment.
