Higher Education Student Enrolments and Qualifications obtained at Higher Education Institutions in the UK, 2010/11

The latest National Statistics on ‘Higher Education Student Enrolments and Qualifications Obtained at Higher Education Institutions in the United Kingdom for the Academic Year 2010/11’ produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) were released on 12 January 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

  • The total number of Higher Education (HE) enrolments at UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) for 2010/11 was 2,501,295, showing no percentage change on 2009/10.
  • The number of HE enrolments at Welsh HEIs was 131,005, an increase of 2 per cent from 2009/10.
  • Full-time enrolments at Welsh HEIs increased by 4 per cent and part-time enrolments decreased by 2 per cent.
  • There were 40,605 full-time first year enrolments on HE courses at Welsh HEIs, a 1 per cent increase from 2009/10.

Qualifications Obtained

  • At UK HEIs there were 369,010 first degree graduates (a 5 per cent increase on 2009/10).
  • At Welsh HEIs there were 20,780 first degree graduates (an 8 per cent increase on 2009/10). 60 per cent of which obtained a first or upper second degree classification.
