The latest statistics on Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) Statistics, produced by the Welsh Government were released on 27 March 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority. The latest release updates the statistics previously released in March 2011.

This Bulletin contains summary information on applicants, through UCAS, accepted to full-time degree and HND courses starting in Autumn 2011 at UK universities and colleges.  It includes information on accepted applicants at Welsh institutions and Welsh domiciled applicants accepted at UK institutions. UK-wide figures were published by UCAS in December 2011.

Key results:

  • 26,249 applicants were accepted by Welsh institutions. This was a four per cent increase on the figure for 2010, and was 43 per cent higher than 1998;
  • 18,327 Welsh domiciled applicants were accepted by UK institutions – a two per cent decrease on 2010, but still 25 per cent higher than in 1998;
  • Accepted applicants from EU countries outside the UK at Welsh institutions remained unchanged on the 2010 figure, but there was an increase in acceptances from non-EU countries.
