Teacher Assessments of the Non-Core Subjects at Key Stage 3, 2009

The latest National Statistics on results of the teacher assessments of non-core subjects at Key Stage 3 for Wales 2009 produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 3 September 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on attainment in the non-core subjects at Key Stage 3 includes final data for Wales for the 2009 teacher assessments.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Since 2008 there has been an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving level 5 or above in all subjects apart from Geography (which has stayed the same) and Physical Education (decreasing by 0.1 percentage points). The greatest increase was in Modern Foreign Languages (2.1 percentage points);
  • The percentage of pupils achieving level 5 (the expected level) or above varied from 77.5 per cent in Information Technology to 56.0 per cent in Welsh Second Language;
  • Girls performed better than boys in all subjects apart from in Physical Education, where boys outperformed girls.
