National Curriculum Assessments of 7, 11 and 14 Year Olds, 2010

Statistics on National Curriculum Assessment results at Key Stage 1, 2 and 3 include final data Wales for the 2010 teacher assessments.

The key points from the latest release are:

Key Stage 1 - 7 year olds

• Results are higher or the same for all subjects when compared to 2009, and higher by at least 2 percentage points for each subject than in 1999.

Key Stage 2 - 11 year olds

• Results are higher or the same for all subjects when compared to 2009, and higher by at least 11 percentage points for each subject than they were in 1999.

Key Stage 3 - 14 year olds

• Results are higher in all subjects when compared to 2009. With the exception of Welsh, which has risen almost 6 percentage points compared to 1999, all other subjects are at least 10 percentage points higher than they were in 1999.

Gender differences

• Girls outperform boys in each core subject and key stage.

Benchmark information tables are also available for Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 (core subjects only). Benchmark information tables for the non-core subjects at Key Stage 3 will be available alongside the release ‘Teacher Assessments of the Non-Core Subjects, Wales 2010’, published on Wednesday 25 August 2010.
