The latest National Statistics on results of the teacher assessments of non-core subjects for Wales 2010 produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 25 August 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on attainment in the non-core subjects includes final data for Wales for the 2010 teacher assessments. This release includes non-core data at Key Stage 2 for the first time this year.

The key points from the latest release are:

Key Stage 3

  • Since 2009 there has been an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving the expected level (level 5 or above) in all subjects. The greatest increase was in Music (3.9 percentage points);
  • The percentage of pupils achieving the expected level or above varied from 80.6 per cent in Information and Communication Technology to 59.4 per cent in Welsh Second Language;
  • Girls performed better than boys in all subjects; the gap was largest in Welsh Second Language at 19.2 percentage points difference. The smallest gap was in Physical Education at 0.9 percentage points.

Key Stage 2

  • The percentage of pupils achieving the expected level (level 4 or above) in Welsh Second Language was 35.4 per cent.

Benchmark information tables are also available for Key Stage 3 (both for core and non-core subjects). Benchmark information tables for Key Stages 1 and 2 are also available alongside the release ‘National Curriculum Assessments of 7, 11 and 14 year olds: Wales, 2010’, published on Wednesday 18 August 2010.
