The latest statistics on pupils aged 15 leaving education without a recognised qualification produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 1 December 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on pupils aged 15 leaving education without a recognised qualification include data for Wales for the period 2004/05 to 2009/10.  The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 2 December 2009.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • In 2009/10, 290 15-year-olds left full time education without a recognised qualification. This is lower than the 2008/09 total of 333.
  • Expressed as a percentage of the cohort 0.8 per cent of pupils left full time education without a recognised qualification in 2009/10, lower than in 2008/09.
  • A greater percentage of boys than girls left without a qualification: 0.9 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively.
