Statistics on schools closures due to extreme weather conditions in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 5 April 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The release includes data for Wales for the academic years 2009/10 and 2010/11.  It is not a regular output.  The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 9 July 2010.

The key points from the release are:

  • The average number of days lost per school was 1.4.
  • Only 3 schools were closed more than a week.
  • 444 schools (26 per cent) did not close at all.
  • Less than one in ten schools were closed for more than two days.
