The latest National Statistics on Pupils with Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN), produced by the Welsh Government, were released on 15 June 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Pupils with Statements of SEN include data at local authority and Wales level as at January 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 16 June 2010.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The number of pupils with a statement of SEN decreased by 2.2 per cent during 2010, bringing the total number with a statement to 14,009 at January 2011.
  • 1,264 pupils were newly assessed as requiring a statement during 2010, compared with 1,340 in the previous year.
  • 92 per cent (12,841 pupils) of pupils with statements at January 2011 were educated within their “home” local authority rather than in other authorities.
