The latest National Statistics on absenteeism from primary schools in Wales produced by the Welsh Government were released on 14 December 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Absenteeism from Primary Schools in Wales, 2010/11 relate to the whole academic year for the academic years 2001/02 to 2010/11.  The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 8 December 2010.

In 2010/11:

  • 6.7 per cent of half-day sessions were missed through authorised and unauthorised absence, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from 2009/10.
  • 0.9 per cent of half-day sessions were missed through unauthorised absence, a small decrease from 2009/10.
  • Over 5,000 pupils (2.7 per cent) had no absence from maintained primary schools.
  • Just under 400 pupils (0.2 per cent) had more than 50 per cent absence from school.
