A National Statistics bulletin on the Walking and Cycling trends in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government was released on 9 December 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on the Walking and Cycling trends include data for Wales for the period 2007. The statistics have been taken from the 2007 Living in Wales survey, which is an annual Welsh household survey.

The key points from the bulletin are:

  • Of those respondents who live within a mile of their usual place of work, 60% walk to work.
  • Around a quarter of respondents aged under 60 have not walked more than 1km in the last seven days.
  • A higher proportion of male than female respondents have walked more than 1km in the last seven days.
