A National Statistics bulletin on Travel to Work and School in Wales produced by the Welsh Assembly Government was released on 9 December 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Travel to Work and School include data for Wales for the period 2007.  The statistics have been taken from the 2007 Living in Wales survey, which is an annual Welsh household survey.

The key points from the bulletin are:

  • Of those respondents who live within a mile of their usual place of work, only 57% of those who work full-time walk to work.
  • Of those respondents who live within a mile of their usual place of work, those who work part-time are more likely to walk to work than those who work full-time.
  • Of those who live within three miles of their usual place of work, 58% of respondents in Wales get to work by car or van.
