Welsh Transport Statistics 2010 – Chapter 7: Road traffic

The latest National Statistics on Road traffic produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 16 December 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website The key points from the latest release are:

  • It is estimated that the volume of motor vehicle traffic on all roads in Wales in 2009 has decreased since 2008 by 1.4 per cent.
  • The volume of traffic has however grown by just over 12 per cent since 2000.
  • Traffic on minor roads accounted for 37 per cent of all traffic.
  • Almost four-fifths (80 per cent) of the volume of traffic on all roads was accounted for by cars, taxis and minibuses.
  • Traffic on motorways accounted for 12 per cent of all road traffic during 2009.
