The latest National Statistics on ‘Police Recorded Road Casualties in Wales: Quarterly Provisional Estimates 2nd Quarter 2012’produced by the Welsh Government were published on 6th November 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website The South Wales police Road accident data have not been included in this First Release. The robustness of the data has been questioned and is under investigation. Until the Welsh Government is satisfied with the South Wales second quarter data for 2012, these data will not be released.

Comparing the most recent 12 month period, that is July 2011 to June 2012, with the previous 12 month period, July 2010 to June 2011, shows:

  • The total number of casualties in Gwent has declined by 19 per cent,
  • The total number of casualties in North Wales has declined by 9 per cent,
  • The total number of casualties in Dyfed Powys has declined by 4 per cent.
