Welsh Language Use Surveys 2004-2006

The Welsh Language Board commissioned a series of three language surveys to be held during the period 2004-2006. The surveys were arranged as an appendix to the ‘Living in Wales’ Survey commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Birth and death registration data are used together with estimates of international migration and internal migration (within UK) flows. To calculate estimates for the usual resident population of each area.
 

National Population Projections

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produces national population projections for Wales, and the other UK countries. These are usually produced every two years. The Welsh Assembly Government is responsible for producing population projections for local authorities.

The Census of Population is conducted to enumerate the whole population and to collect information on the characteristics of people and households. The information is used to form policy, to plan services for specific groups of people, and, in particular, to distribute resources effectively.
