Welsh Health Survey: Content

What the current survey consists of.

1. Face-to-face household interview with a responsible adult in the household. Used to enumerate the household and record the following information:

  • Age & sex.
  • Broad assessment of general health.
  • Housing information (including number of years at address, tenure).
  • Employment status and socio-economic classification (only collected for household reference person (the person in whose name the accommodation is owned or rented)).

2. Self-completion questionnaire for adults with the following sections:

  • Health service use
  • Medicines
  • Illnesses
  • General health and well-being
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Exercise
  • Carers
  • Questions about you (age, sex, height, weight, qualifications etc)

3. For children under 16, a questionnaire, with the following core sections:

  • Questions about the child (age, sex, ethnic group)
  • General health and well-being
  • Health service use
  • Accidents requiring hospital treatment
  • Illnesses and health problems

In addition, the questionnaire for 0-3 year olds includes questions on infant feeding. The questionnaires for 4-12 year olds and 13-15 year olds include sections on eating habits, physical activity and the Strengths and Difficulties questionnaire.
