Masterplans

When you're looking for somewhere to live, learn, work or play, perception is all important.

We prepare Masterplans for areas undergoing change or areas of targeted priority intervention to deliver the sustainable regeneration of a community.

Masterplans have three key stages:

  • Working together with the public, private and voluntary sectors;
  • Creating a shared vision; and
  • Delivery.

Masterplans have sustainable development as the central organising principle, with the aim of meeting social, economic and environmental objectives.

A masterplan should:

  • Deliver sustainable regeneration of a community through the regeneration of an existing site or the creation of a new sustainable development;
  • Create a development with a sense of place; and
  • Meet social, economic and environmental objectives.

Masterplans will be used to deliver high standards of design quality and our environmental standard, see 'Our sustainable building standards’.

Creating successful masterplans

The Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) has published a guide to Creating successful masterplans. It helps people work together to create plans for better places.

The guide is available on the CABE website. It is endorsed by the Design Commission for Wales.
