After each National Assembly for Wales election Welsh Ministers must carry out a review of the effectiveness their Sustainable Development Scheme.

Ministers have a duty to do this under section 79 of the Government of Wales Act 2006. We have published this report has following an independent review carried out by PwC.

  • The positive progress we have made in embedding sustainable development across Wales and our readiness to address the challenges ahead;

  • Examples of where sustainable development principles have been applied effectively through our policies, including:
    • Climate Change Strategy;
    • Strategic energy performance investment programme, Arbed;
    • Economic Renewal Programme;
    • Strategic approach to health, Our Healthy Future;
    • 21st century schools programme;
    • Child Poverty Strategy; and
    • Food Strategy for Wales.

  • Work carried out to engage externally on sustainable development through our Sustainable Development Charter. We have also made good progress on our internal operations by achieving level 5 of the Green Dragon environmental management standard; and

  • The validity of our existing Sustainable Development Scheme, One Wales: One Planet.
