Visit Wales' principal role is to provide leadership and strategic direction to the tourism industry in Wales.
The national tourism strategy confronts the main issues of sustainability, quality, competitiveness and partnership within the tourism industry.

Based upon the exceptional quality of its landscape, natural environment and rich biodiversity, together with its strong sense of culture and heritage, Wales attracts large numbers of visitors.

 

There is no specific policy or programme targeting support for rural tourism at present. The following policy documents however, address several of the issues which face the development and promotion of tourism in rural Wales.

 

Achieving our Potential is the overarching tourism strategy for Wales.  The strategy sets out the following key objectives:

  • developing and communicating a distinctive brand for Wales
  • raising the quality of the tourism experience in Wales
  • improving the accessibility of Wales as a destination
  • encouraging higher skill levels in tourism
  • developing effective collaboration within the industry.
