Information on changes to take place to the self-catering accommodation grading scheme from April 2012.

The common standards scheme for self-catering accommodation has been operational in Wales since 2007. Visit Wales and the other common standards partners have undertaken research (independently and jointly) to assess the impact of harmonisation. This research also helps us to understand how the schemes need to further develop to meet the needs of the consumer and the industry.

The partners have been meeting on a regular basis. Following discussions with WASCO (Wales Association of Self-Catering Operators) and AWA (Association of Welsh Agents) we will implement changes as detailed in the document below. We will not seek to implement all changes discussed and suggest that operators work towards a best practice scenario.

Any new assessments from April 2012 will be undertaken according to the revised criteria. Existing business will be given until March 2014 to undertake any changes (if appropriate) to retain current star grading.

If you feel that you could possibly now obtain a higher rating due to the changes in the criteria, or if you’ve any other queries, please contact us on 0845 010 8020 or by emailing quality.tourism@wales.gsi.gov.uk .
