Leighton Andrews AM is the Minister responsible for the Welsh Language.

As a Government, we are responsible for:

  • Implementing the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011, including:
    • establishing the office of the Welsh Language Commissioner
    • establishing a Welsh Language Tribunal
    • establishing a Welsh Language Partnership Council
    • abolishing the Welsh Language Board
  • developing and reporting on a new Welsh language strategy
  • implementing our agreed Welsh language scheme.

Legislative priorities

In order to establish the office of the Welsh Language commissioner, and associated structures, the Government will introduce subordinate legislation under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011.
